5 Steps To Sensational Stir Fry

A good stir fry meal is both tasty and lower in fat than traditionally cooked meals. Most people have the idea that cooking stir fry is difficult, but in reality it?s not. Here?s how to cook a sensational stir fry.
1. You need a good wok. Is this absolutely necessary? No, but nothing can take the place of a good wok when cooking stir fry, and the meals won?t turn out quite the same or as low in fat if you use a regular pan instead of a wok. The wok doesn?t need to be expensive to work well, but be sure you choose a wok that will work with your type of stove. (A wok for an electric stove will be different than a wok for a gas stove.) Also, if your wok is new, you will need to season it. Follow the directions that the manufacturer sends with your particular wok. You will also need a wooden spoon or something similar (not metal).
2. You will need to choose a type of oil to cook with. Different oils will vary in the amount and type of flavor they add to your food. Experiment and try different oils to see which you like best. The most common oils to use are olive oil, vegetable oil, canola oil, corn oil, grape seed oil, peanut oil, and sunflower oil.
3. Prepare all the ingredients for the stir fry and have them ready and near the wok. Stir frying is fast cooking, so you won?t have time to cut or chop any ingredients after you start cooking. Try and cut all the vegetables and meat into the same bite-sized pieces. This step will actually take you the longest.
4. Start heating your wok on medium-high to high and add some oil. Start with a couple tablespoons of oil the first time you stir fry and then adjust as needed. Once the oil is hot, you can start cooking. Most people like to cook the meat first and then set it aside in a dish? this is a good idea and you can add the meat back into the walk after the vegetables are cooked most of the way through. By the time the meat is hot again, the vegetables will be done. You will want to cook the vegetables in the order of how long it takes them to cook. You would start with the thicker vegetables like potatoes and carrots and add faster cooking vegetables like mushrooms last.
5. Remove the stir fry from the wok and enjoy.
